I have been fortunate enough to have a kitchen in every dorm /apartment I have ever lived in. When I came from India, I brought 4 pots: a pressure cooker, a Chai Saucepan, a kadhai, and a frying pan and 4 utensils: a Steel slotted spoon to fry things, a sieve for my chai, a rolling pin, and a laddle. In addition to this, I also brought a few other things. When leaving for college, I was ready to part with everything but my books and kitchen pots, utensils, and cookware. Those were an essential part of my life, there were the characters of my story, I couldn’t just leave them behind. I needed them, so I brought them here to make me feel like home and make this country which was my home, feel more like home.
